Situated on an isolated ridge in the Shivalik hills, Nahan is the headquarter of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The city, founded as a capital by Raja Karan Prakash in 1621, is known for its cleanliness, green fields and various stories relating to its origin. The most popular one, other than the Raja Karan Prakash version, recalls a saint who lived with friendly "Nahar" at the site of current Nahan Palace establishment. "Nahar" means a lion and is the popular known source of where the town takes its name from, with respect to the saint.
Watered by man made lake and surrounded by temples and gardens, the town retains pleasant climate throughtout the year!
Air: Nearest airport is Chandigarh (80 Kms), with Delhi (268 Kms) as an alternative.
Rail: The nearest railway stations are Ambala (67 Kms), Chandigarh (80 Kms) and Kalka (85 Kms), which are connected by a regular bus service.
Road: Via Dehradun through Paonta Sahib; via Kalka-Ambala from Haryana and via Solan from Shimla. There are regular bus services linking it to the other towns like Manali, Delhi and Haridwar.
