NAINITAL

Nainital, divided into two parts called Tallital (southern side) and Mallital (northern side), with the Naini lake separating them, is a hill station surrounded by the peaks of Kumaon hills and its beautiful temples, exotic scenery and natural hot water springs.

Named after Goddess Naina Devi, one of the 'Shakti Peeths'- religious sites where parts of the charred body of Sati (Parvati) fell on earth while being carried by Lord Shiva. The spot where Sati's eyes (or Nain) fell came to called Nain-tal or lake of the eye. The goddess Shakti is worshiped at the Naina Devi Temple located on the north shore of the present day lake. It is also known as the Lake District of Uttarakhand,
